A well-packed swim bag means more time training and less time hunting for goggles. Use this list for every practice, and add the meet day extras on competition days.
Every practice

- Towel.
- Water bottle. You sweat in the pool too.
- A snack for after.
- Sandals or flip-flops for the deck.
- Shampoo, soap, and a brush.
- A warm layer for after, especially in winter.
Training equipment

- Pull buoy.
- Kickboard.
- Paddles.
- Snorkel.
- A mesh bag to keep it all together and let it dry.
Missing something? Ask your coach before the session. Many programs have extras you can borrow.
Dryland
- Running shoes.
- Comfortable athletic clothes.
Meet day extras
- A second swimsuit, cap, and goggles.
- Two towels.
- Warm clothes or a deck parka to stay warm between races.
- Snacks and drinks for the whole day.
- Your heat sheet or meet app, and a marker to write your events down.
Care tips
Rinse your suit and gear in fresh water after every swim, and hang them to dry. Rinse goggles in cool water and don't rub the inside of the lenses, so the anti-fog coating lasts.
